BARRINGTON — [Julia Keller’s] commentary [Feb. 25] was well-written as always and the juxtaposition of the plagiarism issue with the sacrifice of Daniel Pearl was insightful.

So why am I writing? Your aside on Ms. Goodwin, relating to “her insights unfettered by the manacles of rigid ideology . . . the deliberative person with no ax to grind,” made me gag.

You’re kidding, right? Ms. Goodwin is a fixture on the Sunday morning opinion programs, particularly around the time of a presidential election. She can be relied upon to criticize the Republican candidate and smilingly validate the Democrat every time, lending her credentials as an academic historian to her partisan statements.

There’s nothing wrong with it; it’s her right. Perhaps your admiration for her work has blinded you to her partisanship.
