Louis M. Shapera, age 83, loving and beloved husband of Julie, nee Zuckerman; grateful and loving father of Ellen (Lee) Gussin and Merle (Sherry Magdic) Shapera; devoted grandfather of Grant (Meredith) and Marnie Gussin; beloved son of the late Morris L. Shapera and Fannie Shapera Robin; loving brother of the late Bernice (the late Benjamin Robert) Cohen and Lillian (the late Leonard) Cohn. Louis was President of the 1936 Graduating Class of John Marshall High School, earned his JD from University of Chicago in 1941, served in WWII as a U.S. Navy Lt. Senior Grade and Commanding Officer USS LST 857, practiced law for over 50 years, member of Selective Service Commission from 1952 to 1972, member and Past Chairman of American Jewish Congress Legal Aid Clinic and member of the AJC Board, charter member and longtime Program Chairman of Skokie Valley Symphony Orchestra in which he was a member of the Trumpet Section for 32 years, member of Skokie Central Traditional Congregation since 1964 and Board Member, 1st President of Barclay Place Condominium and longtime member of National Council of Jewish Women. Service Friday 11 a.m. at The Weinstein Family Services Wilmette Chapel, 111 Skokie Blvd. (1 block No. of Old Orchard). Interment Memorial Park, Skokie.
