In your March 3 editorial explaining your endorsement of Corinne Wood as the Republican nominee for Illinois’ governor, you point out that her ideas for the future of Illinois are superior to those of her two opponents. That may be true, but you fail to point out that as lieutenant governor, intra-office turmoil and high staff turnover have been endemic during Wood’s three years on the job.
For a public official to succeed, of course it’s important to have, as your editorial states, “a vision of the future.”
But having the people skills to work with others–and the patience to maneuver through the cutthroat politics of Springfield to actually see that vision of the future implemented–is what separates a bad public official from an effective and successful one. Based upon what I’ve seen of her performance as Illinois’ lieutenant governor, Wood does not have what it takes to be even a mediocre governor of our state.
