On March 2, there were two rebuttal letters to the pro-life letters written by four young men. As a Christian woman, wife and mother of two boys, I was very proud of these young men for the courageous stand they took.

I, too, am pro-life. I have not had the experience of an unwanted pregnancy. I did, however, struggle with infertility before our toddler was born. At six weeks of pregnancy, I saw my son’s heartbeat.

When are we as a country going to realize that the tragedies we see in our world today are a result of the moral example, or lack thereof, we have set for our children? Why are we outraged when a parent kills a child or when children commit heinous acts of violence? Children only know what we teach them.

Instead of teaching our children to take responsibility for our own actions, we show them how to place the blame elsewhere. Why would we teach abstinence or adoption when quieter, socially acceptable options such as abortion and safe sex are so obviously the answer? Abortion perpetuates violence against those who do not yet have a voice. That is why individuals like those four young men speak out.
