The cause of the Mideast violence in the last 17 months is Yasser Arafat’s rejection of the Bill Clinton-Ehud Barak compromises offered at Camp David and Taba.
Instead of negotiating the end of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, Arafat unleashed the Palestinian terrorists to brutally attack Israeli civilians.
The Saudi peace plan offers a ray of hope to end the conflict, provided that the Saudis convince the Palestinians to stop all violence.
In addition, Iran will have to stop sending weapons and Iraq will have to stop paying “prices” to families of the terrorists.
As soon as Palestinian violence is stopped, Israel’s self- defense actions will stop and both parties will be able to negotiate in accordance with the Tenet and Mitchell plans (the cease-fire plan previously outlined by CIA Director George Tenet and the peace plan drafted by former U.S. Sen. George Mitchell).
A resolution of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict could then be achieved.
And both groups could live side-by-side peacefully within secure and recognized borders.
