Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...
I am tired of hearing about the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s problem with a decrease in high-price season ticket-holders and the lack of a younger population in its audience. Has anyone ever considered that the cause might be the lack of music education in the schools, beginning at pre-school and kindergarten?
Children need to be exposed to all kinds of music, beginning at a very young age, in order to develop an aesthetic appreciation. It is only natural that the dollars of the younger generations are going toward events of performers who they hear and see on a daily basis. The situation will only get worse unless the arts are considered core curriculum.
