Anne Becker, 87, a former longtime resident of Carpentersville and a retired elementary school teacher, died Saturday, March 9, in her Iowa City home. Born in Dearborn, Mich., Mrs. Becker started teaching in the 1940s in Arlington Heights before working as a 1st-grade teacher at Meadowdale Elementary School in Carpentersville. She worked at the school for 21 years and retired in the mid-1970s. Mrs. Becker also taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school at Meadowdale Gospel Chapel. She moved to Iowa City two years ago to live with her daughter. “People were so important to her,” said her son, Fred. “Every Valentine’s Day, we would get a Valentine’s Day card from her with a piece of scripture. She wanted to send some love out.” Other survivors include daughters Celeste Reid and Gloria Gardner, and eight grandchildren. A service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Meadowdale Gospel Chapel, 2624 Helm Rd., Carpentersville.
