The Auditorium Theatre plans a 2002-2003 dance calendar featuring the return of the Joffrey Ballet of Chicago, the Bolshoi Ballet, the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, the Eifman Ballet of St. Petersburg and DanceAfrica Chicago.
The Joffrey’s four engagements, up from three this season, although offering fewer performances overall, call for John Cranko’s full-length “The Taming of the Shrew” Oct. 16-20; “The Nutcracker” Nov. 29-Dec. 29; a program celebrating legendary impressario Serge Diaghilev Feb. 26-March 2, 2003; and a program of works by artistic director Gerald Arpino, including a new piece, April 23-27, 2003.
The rest of the lineup includes DanceAfrica Oct. 25-27; the previously announced Bolshoi in “La Bayadere” Nov. 13 and 14 and “Swan Lake” Nov. 15-17; the Eifman Ballet March 20-23, 2003; and Alvin Ailey’s troupe April 2-6, 2003.
