Word is that, nearly 20 years ago when repairs were being made on State Street in downtown Chicago, a suburban contractor obtained many of the old cobblestones that were removed from under the layers of asphalt. Those cobblestones, the story goes, were then used to pave the driveway of this three-story, 12-room home at 4761 Woodcliff Lane in Palatine, then under construction. The driveway’s cobblestones, whatever their source, lead up to a three-car garage and a home of simple architectural lines, set on a wooded lot of more than half an acre. There is a rustic feel to the home-especially from the wraparound deck in the rear overlooking a small creek and more than 100 mature trees-that belies its location near Interstate Highways 90 and 290 and such traffic magnets as Woodfield Shopping Center. AMENITIES: Heated slate floors and a custom THX digital home theater system with a 7-foot-wide screen. BY THE NUMBERS: Four bedrooms, 3 1/2 bathrooms and four fireplaces. Broker: Starck & Co. (Perrie V. Hayes).
