I have known Judge Edward R. Burr for more than 30 years. I know of no person with more integrity, fairness and compassion, combined with a devotion for the rule of law. In my opinion, no other candidate for judge of the Illinois Appellate Court possesses Burr’s legal acumen, experience and proven judicial ability.

I was surprised, therefore, when the Chicago Tribune did not endorse his candidacy, as was every lawyer and judge with whom I discussed the matter (Editorial, March 5).

Burr has consistently received the highest evaluations from the various professional associations reviewing the judicial candidates. Ethnic organizations have endorsed his candidacy.

He has been “highly recommended for the office of judge of the Appellate Court” by the Illinois State Bar Association and by others. The National Association of Women and the Illinois Committee for Honest Government have endorsed him.

Judge Burr is a retired Air Force colonel and a long-time adjunct professor of law at the John Marshall Law School. He has published many scholarly articles.

The voters of Illinois have a unique opportunity to greatly improve the quality of justice in our state by electing Burr to the Appellate Court.
