You can want something so badly you’re willing to wait for as long as it takes–unless it takes 34 years.

A man living in Calcutta was asked to interview for a state government job he applied for in 1968. He politely said no.

Ravindra Nath Halder was a teenager when he applied to work at a state labor exchange office in West Bengal. He said he couldn’t believe it when he got a letter from the exchange earlier this month.

“I’d given up hope,” said the 52-year-old grandfather who owns a snack shop.

Halder’s son applied at the exchange four years ago and has yet to hearback.
