The U.S. Embassy in Sarajevo said Wednesday that it decided to close its doors to the public until further notice because of a reported security threat.
“In response to continued concerns over an unverified threat report, the U.S. Embassy has decided to close its offices to the general public and reduce operations until further notice,” the embassy said.
“The security situation will be continually reassessed and the embassy will resume full operations when it is deemed appropriate.”
Western officials believe Bosnia may be a base for some Islamic radicals.
Hundreds of militant Arabs fought alongside Muslim forces in the former Yugoslav republic’s 1992-95 war, and many settled in Bosnia and gained citizenship.
