“Adrift in the Heartland,” a 70-minute feature film that follows the transition of a young Palestinian woman, Aysha, to life in the United States, will be shown free at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Columbia College Chicago.

In the film, Aysha befriends an African-American woman, Jasmine, one morning when the woman crashes her car near Aysha’s apartment. Misunderstandings riddle their first meeting, but they form a tenuous bond through their mutual love of jazz.

Brigid Maher, an artist in residence in the Film & Video Department at Columbia College Chicago, will be present with editor Bryan McHenry for an audience discussion. Columbia College’s Screening Room 302 is at 1104 S. Wabash Ave.; 312-344-6708.
