Decrying celebrity boxing simply as a sort of emotional panacea for the evils of the world is merely self-indulgent arrogance.
I am one of the millions who watched “Celebrity Boxing.” And I will likely watch the re-run as well.
It was grotesque, a horrible parody of boxing, an opportunity for boxing fans and those who love Jerry Springer to unite as one.
In other words, it was hugely entertaining.
I laughed myself silly watching the pathetic attempts of the “combatants” to pummel each other. Tanya Harding still fights like a girl out of the trailer park, complete with time-outs, and Paula Jones, well, she fights like a girl.
This programming is social and personal satire at its television best.
Diversionary? You bet. Inferior? Please avoid such self-serving vanity and flattery.
Besides, how many times last week did you switch off “Tom and Jerry” for a recap of the bombing you have seen four times already?
