Rose Manning, 84, of Streamwood, who served as a volunteer for nearly 20 years at Sunnydale Elementary School, died of heart failure Wednesday, March 20, in Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village. Her volunteer work in the school’s library “was something that meant a great deal to her,” said her son Tom, who added that until two years ago, his mother volunteered daily at the school. During the 1940s and 1950s, Mrs. Manning, who was born in Chicago, worked as a production supervisor at O’Bryan Brothers, a manufacturer of women’s lingerie in Chicago. After she married her husband, Arthur, she took time off to raise her family. Shortly after settling in Streamwood in 1980, Mrs. Manning began volunteering at the school. She was awarded the Cook County Medal of Honor in 1998 for her service. In 1999 she also was honored with “Rose Manning Day” in Streamwood. Besides her son, survivors include two daughters, Barbara Liberty and Diana Lee; four sons, Ronald, David, Kenneth and Gerald; and 28 grandchildren. Prayers will said at 9:15 a.m. Saturday in Ahlgrim & Sons Funeral Home, 485 S. Bartlett Rd., Streamwood. Mass will be said at 10 a.m. in Church of the Holy Spirit, 1451 Bode Rd., Schaumburg.
