Fred F. Steingraber, 92, died March 23, at Hilton Head Island, SC, where he has resided since 1974. The New Jersey native was a graduate of Blair Academy, University of Pennsylvania and Harvard Graduate School of Business AMP Program. He was employed in the Petroleum industry for 40 years, during which time he was a Senior Vice-President of the Pure Oil Company; President of Pure Oil Transportation and Supply; Vice-President of the Union Oil Company of California, headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. From 1965 to 1975 Mr. Steingraber was President and Chief Executive Officer of the Colonial Pipe Line Company headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, from which he retired. He served as a Director of numerous pipeline companies, a Director of the American Petroleum Institute; The Transportation Associates of America; and was Chariman of the Association of Oil Pipe Lines during his distinguished career. Upon his retirement, he moved to Hilton Head Island, SC, he was a member of St. Luke Episcopal Church; the Sea Pines Club;and a member and Commander of the Hilton Head Island Flotilla of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. Surviving are his daughter, Elizabeth Steingraber of Snellville, GA, sons, Frederick of Kenilworth, IL, Douglas of Woodstock, GA, Richard of Dunwoody, GA; five grandchildren; and brother, Charles Steingraber of Hilton Head Island, SC and a sister, Ethel Gray of Clearwater Beach, FL. The family will hold a private funeral service, and Mr. Steingraber will be buried in Six Oaks Memorial Park on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Seabrook Endowment Fund at the Seabrook of Hilton Head, 300 W. Woodhaven Drive, Hilton Head Island, South Carolina 29928. The Island Funeral Home & Crematory, Hilton Head Island, SC, is in charge of arrangements.
