Your March 20 editorial “Taking back Cook County” did Cook County Commissioner Calvin Sutker a disservice when you put him in the same class with “ol’ reliable votes on the board . . . Ted Lechowicz [and] Al Carr.”
Unlike them, Sutker did his best to advance sound fiscal policies and better management in the forest preserves. He was one of only four commissioners to vote against the sale of forest preserve land to Rosemont in 1999.
He pushed for a bond referendum for forest preserve land acquisition, and he supported the Forest Preserve District’s core mission of land preservation and restoration.
In the recent budget cycle, he sponsored or cosponsored a number of progressive amendments.
Sutker has been a responsive public servant and deserves our thanks.
