Watching both parties’ gubernatorial nominees in the days prior to the primary, then watching the intelligent and reasoned commentary of former Gov. Jim Edgar on WGN-TV on election night, certainly made me wish he’d been on the March 19 ballot.

Many Illinoisans may not have fully appreciated Edgar’s quiet competence, integrity and independence while he was in office, but we certainly miss it now (and will continue to do so).
