Gerald Richard, Ph.D., age 71, of Chicago, passed away Saturday, March 23, 2002. Gerald was born on Dec. 6, 1930 in Chicago, IL to the late Eugene and Angel Richard. He was a veteran of the Korean War. He was employed by the Chicago Park District as a recreational leader and coach. Later, he began his career with the Chicago Board of Education, and worked as a Physical Education teacher, Counselor, Track and Field and Cross Country coach for over 35 years. He was also a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. He is survived by siblings, children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of relatives, friends and former athletes. Gerald will be fondly remembered as a strong leader, motivator, coach and mentor by family, friends, students, athletes and colleagues. Services will be held on Wednesday, March 27, 2002. The wake will be held 10 to 11 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass 11 to 12 Noon, at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 5472 S. Kimbark Ave. in Chicago. Interment will be at St. Mary Cemetery, Evergreen Park, IL.
