The Lane Tech boys volleyball team was intent on showing that Saturday’s stunning victory over No. 1 Evanston was no fluke.

And despite some sluggish moments on Tuesday, Lane maintained its momentum from the weekend and swept defending city champion Young 15-3, 15-10.

Lane (6-1) took advantage of hitting errors by the host Dolphins (0-2) as it broke a 2-2 tie and launched a 13-1 run to win the opening game. In Game 2, Lane rallied from a 7-0 deficit with 11 unanswered points to take command.

“I didn’t really have to say much to them because I knew we would pick it up eventually [in Game 2],” Lane coach Scott Eisenberg said. “Learning to play through these lulls is something that’s crucial in the beginning of the season. I knew that we’d work our way out of it.”

Junior middle hitter Drew Adams led the Indians with six kills and three blocks while Adrian Velez added four kills and three blocks.

At last Saturday’s Evanston Spring Fling, Lane beat the No. 1 Wildkits in three games and then fell to Maine East 15-10, 15-7 in the title game.

“We ran out of gas in the championship,” Eisenberg said.
