Roy T. Pohl, 89, of Schaumburg, a retired salesman, died of cancer Saturday, March 23, in Friendship Village, Schaumburg. Born in St. Louis, Mr. Pohl was a salesman for Hiram Walker & Sons Ltd.. Mr. Pohl began his career as a liquor salesman in St. Louis before moving to the Chicago area in 1949, when he became vice president of sales for the Midwest region. He retired in 1973. A former longtime resident of Park Ridge, Mr. Pohl was an avid golfer who instilled his passion for the game in his sons. “Every Sunday we would play together,” said his son David, adding that his father taught golf to him and his brother when they turned 5. “He gave us clubs, and he always gave us lessons.” Mr. Pohl spent his retirement in Ft. Myers, Fla. Other survivors include a daughter, Mary Holm; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Services will be private.
