Sol M. Levitt, 93, a retired vice president for Sears, Roebuck and Co., died of congestive heart failure Sunday, March 24, in his Treasure Island, Fla., home. Born in New York, Mr. Levitt spent his childhood in Toronto before his family moved to Chicago. He started his 47-year career with Sears when he was 10 years old, working as a messenger, his family said. He worked his way up vice president and was national printing buyer and general purchasing agent. When he was a teenager, he met the woman, Anne, with whom he would spend more than 80 years. The two were married 72 years, and were honored with a resolution from the state of Florida and a visit from Gov. Jeb Bush on their 70th anniversary, his son Bob Levittino said. The couple lived for decades on Chicago’s North Side. Mr. Levitt served on many civic committees, and chaired Sears fundraising campaign for the Boy Scouts. “He always had a sparkle,” said his son. Enchanted by the idea of ranching, Mr. Levitt also took four years of animal husbandry and kept horses at a stable in Des Plaines. He also enjoyed tennis. In his younger days, Mr. Levitt was the Sears company tennis champion, his son said. Mr. Levitt retired in 1968, and the couple moved to Ft. Lauderdale. Survivors include his wife, Anne; a sister, Mary Hankin; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Services were held Friday.
