Bravo to Barbara Brotman for starting her kids off with their first opera. “Magic Flute” was a superb choice. Don’t be discouraged. In the past two weeks, over 10,000 kids, from elementary and high schools, have seen our student matinee of “Flute” and even though they are usually a little unfocused at the start, over three hours later they are on their feet cheering the performers. Like anything worth cultivating, the appreciation of opera requires just a bit of effort.
