In the beginning no one feared the turtle.
Maryland’s mascot, Testudo the Terrapin, was best described as dopey and avuncular.
But then the univesity transformed him into a hulking superhero.
“Awesome and bad” is how junior Chris Rushing, who wears Testudo’s 20-pound outfit, describes the feeling.
Rushing has promised to be on his best behavior at the Final Four, even as crazed, red-clad Maryland fans hoist signs that read: “Fear the Turtle!”

When dressed as Testudo, Rushing brags, “I get respect wherever I go.”

Broadcaster Vin Scully was selected the all-time favorite at Dodger Stadium in the first of a series of monthly fan polls run on the Dodgers’ Web site.
Scully beat out such on-field personnel as Tom Lasorda, Sandy Koufax and Fernando Valenzuela.
A 1982 inductee into the broadcasters wing of the Hall of Fame, Scully called many–if not all–of the greatest moments in Dodger Stadium history.
The poll, which drew more than 4,100 votes during the month, is tied to Dodger Stadium’s 40th anniversary celebration.
