Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Ed Sherman’s March 18 media column is the latest effort by a Tribune writer to fashion an article out of nothing.

Sherman’s complaint that CBS erred in leaving viewers with the UCLA-Cincinnati NCAA tournament game instead of switching to the start of the Illinois-Creighton game is needless whining. Sherman failed to realize two things CBS did: First, that the end of an enthralling game is more exciting than the start of any game, no matter the teams involved; and second, NCAA tournament viewers are college basketball fans, not just Illinois fans. The open-minded viewers who enjoyed UCLA’s upset, rather than complain about their misfortune, were given a memory far more lasting than the first nine minutes of the Illinois game could ever be.
