As a convert from Judaism to Catholicism, I am pained when some priests during Lent fail to explain that it was some Jews, not the Jews in the 1st Century, who participated in the crucifixion.

I am also concerned with the front-page coverage of priests who are pedophiles. Sensationalism can lead to generic condemnations of priests and the Church.

We cannot dismiss the suffering caused by anti-Semitism or child molestation. But I worry how this stigma of suspicion may affect the supportive role many priests have played to children.

We need to isolate the sick priests and also encourage others to express healthy warmth to needy children.
