The March 22 editorial cartoon dealing with the sexual abuse of children by Catholic clergy depicted a prelate of the Church dressed in robe and miter. It was disrespectful and insensitive.
In Chicago, Cardinal Francis George wears the miter, as Cardinal Joseph Bernardin did before him. Under their leadership, the archdiocese has taken notable steps to forthrightly address this issue.
The cartoon denigrated symbols sacred to Catholics, and it does not portray the practices of the Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago.
