My name is Yvette Lopez. I am 16 years old and I’m in Ms. Ariela Freedman’s English class at Benito Juarez High School. I am writing in response to the Feb. 17 article in the Health and Family section, titled “Make `em laugh.”

I thought it was great that your journalist recognized teachers like Ms. Freedman who use humor in their classrooms. Humor can make learning a fun experience, plus it helps many students do better in school.

But I had a problem with the way our class and Benito Juarez were portrayed. The article said that our class is filled with “tough-talking boys,” which in my opinion is far from true.

Though our school has a bad reputation, a newspaper article saying that doesn’t make our school or community look any better, and certainly doesn’t help get rid of the bad reputation.
