Judith E. Tyle, 63, of Cicero, a community volunteer and Sunday school teacher, died of heart failure Monday, April 1, in Loretto Hospital in Chicago. Ms. Tyle graduated from Morton High School and received a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Beloit College in Beloit, Wis. She also got a master’s degree in social work from Concordia College in River Forest. At age 13, she was diagnosed with scoliosis and slowly developed a lateral curvature of her spine, which stunted her growth. “She was only 4 feet, 10 inches tall, but her strong will and determination made her seem a lot taller,” said her sister, Lois Jack. “She was fiercely independent and motivated to do whatever it was she wanted.” Ms. Tyle taught Sunday school and served on the church council at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Cicero. She was also a longtime board member of the PAV YMCA in Berwyn and volunteered at Sarah’s Inn Hot Line, an agency for abused women in Oak Park. Concerned about the environment, she was also a member of the Sierra Club and an advocate of recycling. “Judy will leave a big void in our lives,” said Jack. “She was tiny in stature, but tall in her ways.” Other survivors include her mother, Eleanor; a nephew and a niece. Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday in H. Marik & Sons Funeral Home, 6507 W. Cermak Rd., Berwyn. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 1937 S. 50th Ave., Cicero.
