Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...
We turned the corner of the Chicago Tribune building on Easter weekend, and everyone was bustling about shopping, happy and enjoying the sun and beautiful blue skies. On the sidewalk, next to stones embedded in the building, lay a beautiful bird, dead of a injury to its side.
I was amazed that no one had picked it up or was curious about it.
When I got home, I looked it up in the Audubon Society bird book devoted to sea and shore birds. I was curious about its identity. No doubt about it, it was a Virgina rail. Supposedly it frequents marshes throughout the country. In the marsh, it stays close to the ground, but it migrates great distances. This beauty didn’t make it.
