Evelyn Stenzel, nee Bliss, 84, gently departed this world on March 21, 2002 at her home at 1943 W. Berteau Avenue, in the Ravenswood neighborhood. She was the widow of William Stenzel, a real estate broker at G. Dette Real Estate, 1920 W. Irving Park Road, who died in 1975. She was the proud mother of Barbara Samantha Stenzel, a journalist and tour operator and William C. Stenzel, an engineer at Sargent and Lundy of Chicago, wed last summer to Roseann Kroon. She had three wonderful grandchildren, Lee, Cheryl and Will; and two great-grandchildren, Nicolas and Nathan. Mrs. Stenzel had lived for many years with her mother, Elizabeth Lange, born in the Czech Republic, who had passed on in 1995. She was a longtime Lake View resident, former president of the Blaine Elementary School PTA and fervent campaigner in the 1950s for the establishment of the PBS TV channel. A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 14, at Unity in Chicago Church at 1925 W. Thome, West Edgewater. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Vitas Hospice Organization.
