Thank you for the report on the 200th anniversary of the West Point Military Academy in New York (“At 200, West Point salutes change,” News, March 26).
How wonderful that there is still one place in the United States where honor, honesty, responsibility, humility, courage and putting country before self are taught.
The contrast between West Point and civilian colleges is stark.
Colleges today seem to accept cheating, plagiarism, grade inflation, excess drinking and drug use. The students have reported they learn very little about history, or about our political system or our free-market economic system.
The United States military academies are the very few places in the U.S. where duty, honor and our country’s ideals are instilled in the students.
So happy 200th anniversary to West Point.
