Maria Breit, nee Ortner, 94, passed away at Oak Ridge Care Center, on Wednesday, April 17, 2002. Maria was born in Mittelfirmiensreut, Bavaria, Germany on May 11, 1907 to Matthias and Anna, nee Kirschbaum, Ortner. She was a resident of Chicago, moving to Racine three years ago. Maria married Fritz Breit in Chicago in 1930. He preceded her in death in 1972. She was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Chicago. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Frederick (Anitra) Breit of Washington State; three grandchildren, Fred (Shelly) Breit of Nevada, Tom (Heidi Nagel) Breit of Washington State and Stephanie (Will Nicholson) Breit of Racine; six great-grandchildren; four sisters, Rosa, Senta, Thea and Luise in Germany and brother, Heinrich in Germany; and numerous nieces and nephews in Germany. Maria was preceded in death by her parents; and her son Frank Breit; and grandson, Christopher. The Mass of Christian Burial for Maria will be held at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 1429 W. Wellington Ave., Chicago, on Friday, April 19, 2002 at 10 a.m., celebrated by Rev. John Blazek. Interment will take place in St. Joseph Cemetery, River Grove, IL.
