Phyllis Jean Foster Thorp, born Jan. 7, 1922 in York, NE, died April 19, 2002 at N.C. Little Hospice, Edina, MN. Survived by siblings, Doris Hunter of Denver, CO and Kenneth Foster of Isabella, MO; children, Lauretta (Raymond) Shipley of Wake Forest, NC, Paul (Ann) Thorp of Eden Prairie, MN, David (Kathleen) Thorp of Hopkins, MN and Valerie (Robert Rosenberg) Thorp-Rosenberg of Glenview, IL; grandchildren, Jennifer Wooden of Wake Forest, NC, Raymond Shipley of Clayton, NC, Christopher Thorp and Sarah Thorp of Minneapolis, MN, Meghan Thorp and Katherine Thorp of Hopkins, MN, Benjamin Rosenberg, Nathaniel Rosenberg and Julia Rosenberg, all of Glenview, IL; great-grandchildren, Joshua and Tyler Rogers of Wake Forest, NC; also survived by Donald Thorp of Hayward, Wisconsin. Phyllis graduated from York High School and York College. She taught chemistry at York High School. She served in the Navy during WWII, stationed in San Diego, CA, she was awarded the American Area Campaign and World War II Victory medals. She then attended Aurora College. She worked for St. Charles Hospital. She volunteered for Girl Scout Committee, The 4-H Club, American Legion (past Commander), The League of Women Voters, The Red Cross, The Hayward Chapter of AARP, Hayward Garden Club, Spider Lake Church, Lioness, New England Congregational Church and the Batavia Congregational Church. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 27, 2002 at 11 a.m. at Spider Lake Church, 12104 N. Twin Lake Road, Hayard, WI. Interment with military honors at Greenwood Cemetery in York, NE. Memorials preferred to N.C. Little Hospice, 7019 Lynmar Lane, Edina, MN 55435. Arrangements with Cremation Society of MinnesotaEdina Chapel.
