Household International, Prospect Heights, jumped $4.34, or 7.5 percent, to $62.44. The consumer credit provider posted better-than-expected first-quarter results and affirmed current estimates for the full year.
Schaumburg-based Motorola added $2.47, or 18.4 percent, to $15.91. The maker of mobile phones and semiconductors said it expects to resume profitability in the third quarter.
First Health Group, Downers Grove, rose $3.16, or 12.5 percent, to $28.45. The health-care insurance provider landed a contract and boosted its projections for 2003 results.
Natural gas distributor Nicor, Naperville, and bond fund manager John Nuveen, Chicago, hit record highs after posting first-quarter results.
