Two police officers were injured when they were pelted with bricks and bottles at the Chicago Housing Authority’s Rockwell Gardens development, authorities said Sunday.

The officers were interviewing five people late Saturday in the 300 block of South Western Avenue as part of a narcotics investigation when the situation escalated into a confrontation, police said.

A crowd gathered around the officers and began throwing things at them, authorities said.

A bottle hit one officer in the head, and another was struck by a brick. One of the officers was treated and Mt. Sinai Hospital and released.

Police were investigating Sunday, but no arrests had been made.
