J.T. Snow of the Giants was mobbed by teammates after scoring the winning run in the 10th inning of San Francisco’s 6-5 victory over the Reds on Sunday.

It was quite a contrast to the scene eight innings earlier when nobody even noticed him getting picked off first base. Snow pulled the disappearing-runner trick as Reggie Sanders sent his bat flying into the stands on a wild swing and miss. Everyone watched the wood spiraling hypnotically into the crowd–including Snow, who was nailed slinking back to first by catcher Jason LaRue.

Television cameras didn’t catch the blunder either.

“Good,” Snow said.

Keep it down

The incessant ringing of cowbells by Sacramento Kings fans is causing headaches for the Dallas Mavericks. Dallas players complained about fans ringing cowbells during timeouts of Saturday’s Game 1, and coach Don Nelson said the bells should be banned from the Arco Arena.

“We’re trying to encourage fans not to do it,” Kings spokeswoman Sonja Brown said.

Kings owner Joe Maloof, who gave Mavs owner Mark Cuban a cowbell, called the noise “part of the game.”

Say what?

`That’s great. Now I can send my kid to college.’
