Clean up your desk; somebody’s mom may be watching. Wednesday has been designated as “Bring Your Mom To Work Day,” an effort headed by the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Inc. and 1-800-Flowers.com.

Gateway and AT&T are among the companies participating in the pilot year.

The event is modeled after “Take Our Daughters To Work Day,” a 10-year-old project that is officially being expanded to include sons next year.

“It’s a way of thanking mom for all of the work that she’s done,” said Jamie Boris, executive director of the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Inc.

Besides giving Mom a chance to see that you really do what you say you do, the event also aims to raise awareness of the importance of early detection of ovarian cancer. Each person who participates is encouraged to make a $5 donation, all of which directly goes to ovarian cancer research.
