In “INS clears way for ailing girl; Chilean to be considered for rare transplant” (Metro, May 8), Tribune staff reporter Oscar Avila reported that medical officials have in past months refused to consider Melannie Veliz for a lifesaving lung transplant, “fearing the organs might be wasted if her family were to be deported to Chile.”
