Ingrid G. Smith, born June 2, 1941 in Dusseldorf, Germany, died at home in Rolling Meadows on May 13, 2002. After growing up in Germany and becoming a primary education teacher, Ingrid came to the U.S. in 1964 with her husband, L.C., a former German teacher at Fremd High School, Palatine. She fulfilled her dream of becoming a nurse in 1990 and worked for six years on the oncology unit at Lutheran General Hospital, Park Ridge, until she herself was struck with ovarian cancer. After a long fight, she succumbed to the disease on May 13, 2002. Ingrid spent the Fall of 2001 at Camp Make-A-Dream in Missoula, Montana. It was her warmest wish that any donations be directed to this camp for children, teens and adults with cancer. In lieu of flowers, donations would be greatly appreciated to Children’s Oncology Camp Foundation, P.O. Box 1450, Missoula, MT, 59806. Ingrid would like to express her deepest thanks to all her friends and health care workers who supported her so lovingly during her long illness. In loving memory, husband, L.C. Smith; sister, Gisela (Horst); children, Yvette (Reno) Reeves, Kevin (Keri) Smith and David Smith; and grandchildren, Danielle, Nicholas and Kyle. Burial will be private and a Memorial Service will be planned for the near future.
SMITH, INGRID G.
