Carroll E. Ebert, 78, beloved husband of Helen M., nee Amundson; loving father of Mark (Veronique), John (Gladys), Lynne (Thomas) Tuch, Jane (Thomas) Collins, and Jim (Julie); loved grandfather of Pierre, Marie and Helena, Laura and Robert, Tom and Brian Tuch, Keith and Shannon Collins and Nick; fond brother of Jean (Clyde) Autio; numerous nieces and nephews; preceded in death by his parents Erich and Frances, nee Matthews. Carroll was a resident of Naperville since 1967 and a long term resident of Baraboo, WI and Naples, FL. He was a US Navy veteran serving in WWII in the Pacific Theatre attaining the rank of quarter master first class, PT Boat Squadron. He had a distinguished career as an executive in the retail industry culminating in his appointment as Chief Executive Officer of Carson, Pirie, Scott & Co., Chicago. He was also a former member of the Illinois State Board of Education. Carroll also dedicated himself to a variety of philanthropic activities especially with the Chicago Uptown Ministry, the Lutheran Child and Family Services, Lutheran Charities, United Way and other civic organizations. Carroll was a member of the American Legion, Baraboo Post and a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Naperville. Visitation today 4 to 8 p.m. at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville and on Friday, 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church, 1550 Modaff Rd., Naperville. Interment 12 noon Saturday, at Walnut Hill Cemetery, Baraboo, WI. In lieu of flowers, memorials to either Chicago Uptown Ministry, 4720 N. Sheridan Rd., Chicago, IL 60640 or to Lutheran Child and Family Services, 7620 W. Madison St., River Forest, IL 60305.
