A new Chicago Transit Authority elevated train structure was scheduled to be rolled into place at Wacker Drive and Wells Street on Saturday as part of the Wacker reconstruction project.

Work started Friday night dismantling the 103-year-old “L” steelwork and was to continue for more than 50 hours to finish installing the 425-ton span, just south of the Wells Street bridge, before Monday morning’s commuter rush.

CTA Brown Line service into and out of the Loop has been suspended until 4:30 a.m. Monday. Brown Line trains will go no farther into downtown than the Merchandise Mart station. Shuttle buses will operate between the Mart and all Brown Line stops in the downtown until service resumes Monday. A shuttle train also will operate around the Loop.
