John J. Darcy, 77, of Chicago, passed away May 18 after a short illness, surrounded by all of his children. John joined the British Royal Army on April 18, 1941. He was transferred to the Army Air Corps April 17, 1943; posted to Second Paratroop Battalion June 2, 1943; captured in North Africa on July 14, 1943; liberated May 12, 1945. John was finally released from Reserves in 1946 and was awarded four medals. John was a dedicated employee of Joyce Brothers Storage and Van Company for over 15 years when he retired with full pension. Never one to sit still, he continued working up until age 70 as a mover. Beloved husband of the late Anza Francis, nee Mastine; loving father of John, William and Charles; dear brother of Francis and Priscilla D’Arcy, Louie Gordon, Olive (John) Mooney and the late Eileen Bryan; proud grandfather of four grandsons; and three greatgrandchildren; John will be missed by many nieces, nephews and friends; beloved son of the late William and Louisa Darcy, nee Stoker.
