McDonald’s is trying to win over Turkish soccer fans by introducing tastes of the country’s World Cup rivals–Brazil, Costa Rica and China.
“Eat them up, Turkey!” reads a huge banner outside a McDonald’s in Ankara.
The Chinese menu confuses some Turks, familiar with American fast food but strangers to Asian food.
“I did not like Chinese, but I would eat it if it is any help to Turkey to beat China,” 17-year-old Cagdas Cakici said.
Hold the hooligan
Englishman Andrew Cooper, 37, became the first fan denied entry into World Cup host South Korea under a plan set up by Britain to keep hooligans away from the upcoming tournament. Cooper was detained Sunday after arriving on a flight to Seoul.
