The Streamwood Village Board has approved the annexation and rezoning of property for an 18-house subdivision.

The Kirk Corp. development, approved last week, will be built on 8 acres east of Illinois Highway 59 and west of the Oak Ridge Trails subdivision.

Suncrest II single-family homes will cost $300,000 to $400,000. The two-story homes will have three to five bedrooms with 2,600 to 3,500 square feet of overall space, company President John Carroll said.

The subdivision will bring the number of homes in Suncrest to 112. The board approved the 23-home Suncrest North subdivision with similarly priced models in March.

A company representative said construction should begin by the middle of summer.

In other action, trustees unanimously voted to allow the four ice cream vending companies licensed to do business in village to use only manually operated bells while the vehicles are moving. A previous ordinance allowed vendors to play electronic music only when stopped.

A few months ago, the village tried to ban the trucks altogether.

The defeat came after Alan Drazen, a representative of the International Association of Ice Cream Vendors; several ice cream vendors; and nearly a dozen students from a high school government class spoke against the ban.

Acting Village Manager Gary O’Rourke said the rule aims to reduce the disruption to residents.

The change is scheduled to take effect June 1.
