Alfred R. Winkelhake, 87, of Rolling Meadows, a retired printing technician, died Friday, May 17, in Manor Care Health Services in Rolling Meadows. Born in Chicago, Mr. Winkelhake served three years in the Army in Europe, where he was a locomotive engineer. Following his military service, he married his late wife, Carol, in 1948 and began working at Charles Brunning Co., a printing shop in Chicago. Mr. Winkelhake was a technician responsible for maintaining the company’s offset printers and machines. He retired in 1977. “He really liked to be active,” said his son William, who added his father enjoyed woodworking and doing home repairs. “He didn’t want to call the repairman. He liked doing it himself.” Survivors also include sons Kenneth and Richard; a daughter, Donna; four grandchildren; and a great-grandson. A service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Meadows Funeral Home, 3615 Kirchoff Rd., Rolling Meadows.
