Solveig “Evie” Sommer, of Des Plaines. Visitation Friday, May 24, 2002 from 3 to 8 p.m. and Saturday 12 noon until time of service 3 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home, 820 Talcott Rd., at Cumberland, Park Ridge. Born March 18, 1916 she passed away May 21 from cancer. Evie was active in the Norwegian Community including Sons of Norway, Norwegian-American Hospital, Normennenes Ladies Auxiliary and Norwegian National League. She was a member of the Des Plaines Ladies Elks. Evie also enjoyed volunteering at the Shriner’s Hospital making gifts for sick children. Evie is survived by her children, Joe (Jill) Sommer and Ruth Ann (Ken) Monico; grandchildren, Joe (Lisa) and Jeff (Tamara) Sommer, Eric, Darren and Alyssa Monico; great-grandchildren, Joe and Nicholas Sommer. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Joseph J. Sommer. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Info, 847-823-5122 .
