The fifth and final person to plead guilty in connection with an armed robbery that police thwarted in January was sentenced Thursday to 3 years in prison.

Ruben Navarro, 19, of the 2300 block of Sequoit Road in Waukegan pleaded guilty Thursday to conspiracy to commit armed robbery for his role in the planned heist at a KFC restaurant in Round Lake Beach, Assistant State’s Atty. Shannon Castellano said.

Navarro and Jesse Chicas, 22, of the 0-100 block of Gifford Court in Mundelein were arrested Jan. 6 after they drove into the parking lot of the restaurant at 715 W. Rollins Rd. Police had been tipped off about the robbery, and a SWAT team was waiting for the men when they arrived just before closing time.

Chicas pleaded guilty April 11 to attempted armed robbery and was sentenced to 5 years in prison, Castellano said. Three other gang members were arrested days after the planned robbery, and all were charged with conspiracy to commit armed robbery. Chicas’ brother and roommate, Walter, 29; Israel Perez, 18, address unknown; and Gerardo Reyes, 18, of the 600 block of Highland Terrace, Round Lake Beach, all pleaded guilty last month.

Walter Chicas was sentenced to 30 months in prison, Perez was sentenced to 3 years,and Reyes got 4 years.
