A letter writer recently expressed indignation about the lack of public outrage over the condition of the Church of the Nativity after the recent siege (“Bethlehem outrage,” Voice of the people, May 19).
Wouldn’t Muslims be up in arms, they ask, if a besieged band of Christians had left one of Islam’s most sacred shrines in such a shambles?
I find it reassuring that, at least in this case, Christians seem to have eschewed the grudge-bearing and resentment that have left the Mideast itself in such a shambles, and are practicing the forgiveness that is supposed to be the hallmark of their faith. Their founder would be proud.
