In the late 19th Century, seeking to escape the soot, smoke and congestion of Chicago’s Loop, a group of business magnates traveled more than 20 miles to southwestern Cook County to establish the Midlothian Country Club. But these executives weren’t just golfers. They also built summer homes for their families, such as this colonial-accented, two-story duplex on Cottage Row Lane, facing the northern edge of the club, that furniture tycoon William Scholle constructed in 1902 for his twin daughters. DETAILS: The western unit at 2 W. Cottage Row Lane in Midlothian was extensively renovated over the past decade, but it retains much of its original character, with 9 1/2-foot ceilings, a sun room with etched-glass French doors and a back staircase once used by servants. BY THE NUMBERS: Five bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths, two fireplaces and a detached three-car garage. BROKER: Century 21 (Bob Newman).
ASKING: $339,900
